Fire crews from Bloxwich and Aldridge Stations arrived at Woodlands caravan site in Lime Lane, Pelsall, Walsall, around 4.30am.

Bloxwich Crew Commander Matthew Sullivan said afterwards: "The caravan was well alight when we arrived and the flames were threatening two brick built launderette buildings on either side.

"The fire was already melting the fascia and was threatening the roof but we managed to stop it spreading.

"The two people who were sleeping in the caravan had a very lucky escape.

"One needed treatment at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation but did not need to go to hospital."

Crews were at the scene for around 90 minutes.

The fire that gutted the caravan is being treated as accidental although the precise cause has still to be established.
