Frydays Fish Bar, based on Halesowen Road, Old Hill, Cradley Heath, has been devastated by the blaze which took hold this morning.

West Midlands Fire Service was called to the address at 10.14am.

Four fire crews from Oldbury, Dudley and Haden Cross fire stations tackled the blaze, which affected the whole shop.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "When crews arrived they found a severe fire on the ground floor of the chip shop, which is located on a row of shops."

The spokeswoman confirmed the shop had been 50 per cent damaged by flames but 100 per cent damaged by the smoke.

Neighbouring units, including an upstairs gym, were also affected by the smoke.

The fire was out by 12.30pm but crews returned later in this afternoon to check the scene.

Fire service officials were unable to confirm the cause of the fire, however it is believed it was caused by a tumble dryer.

Pictures posted on Twitter by Haden Cross fire show the shop's charred remains.
