The incident happened at the Staffordshire attraction yesterday at 5.45pm.

The man suffered minor injuries, and was discharged from hospital last night.

He had been working for building contractors Kettle & Talbot, operating a plant vehicle when it happened.

Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the incident.

The Health and Safety Executive was informed of the incident, and is now investigating, a spokesman confirmed today.

A spokesman for Kettle & Talbot said: "We can confirm that yesterday evening an incident occurred at our construction site at Alton Towers.

"An employee of Kettle & Talbot suffered minor injuries whilst operating a plant vehicle.

"Police and ambulance services arrived on the scene and a man was taken to hospital as a precaution. He has since been discharged with bruising and is now back at work.

"Kettle & Talbot have now launched a full investigation into the matter."

A police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an injury sustained by a workman on site at Alton Towers yesterday and attended at around 5:45pm.

"We understand the man was later discharged from hospital with minor injuries and the incident is now in the hands of the Health and Safety Executive."

The park is not currently open to the public.

The attraction was left reeling following the Smiler rollercoaster crash in 2015 which left five people seriously injured.

Alton Towers owner Merlin Entertainments said it had 'learned every lesson' from the crash.

Last year it was revealed that visitor numbers were still being affected.
