Baby girl in pushchair hit by car near crossing and health centre in Darlaston

A baby girl was rushed to hospital after its pushchair was hit by a car in Darlaston.

The four-month-old baby suffered injuries to its upper body and head in the crash after falling from the buggy.

The crash happened in Pinfold Street outside Darlaston Health Centre at around 10am today.

The girl was treated at the scene for face, shoulder and arm injuries before being taken to Walsall Manor Hospital.

Meanwhile police closed Pinfold Street next to the zebra crossing outside the health centre while the incident was dealt with.

Ambulance crews were called at 10am and had left for Walsall Manor by 10.30am.

Councillor Doug James, who represents Darlaston South on Walsall Council, was at the scene at midday and said: "My first thoughts are for any injured.

"The police are doing a great job of re-assurance and traffic control."

The road was back open by 1.15pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: "The four-month-old girl came out of the pushchair as a result of the collision.

"She had suffered injuries to both arms and her head. After treatment at the scene, she was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital for further assessment with her mother travelling with her.

"There were no other patients."
