The grey Honda Civic left the Swynnerton Road near Eccleshall, Stafford, at around 12.35pm yesterday.

Ambulance crews said it was clear the hatchback had rolled a 'considerable distance' before landing back on its wheels.

The front seat passenger, a 25-year-old man, was trapped in the crumpled remains of the car for around an hour before being freed by emergency services.

He broke his right leg and was also suffering from neck and back pain.

His leg was put in a splint as he was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The driver, also aged 25, sustained a suspected dislocated shoulder and also complained of neck pain. He too was taken to Royal Stoke.

Two ambulances, a paramedic support officer and a community first responder from the Eccleshall-based voluntary group attended.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: "The Honda Civic had left the road, gone through a hedge and ended up a considerable distance into a field.

"Thankfully, it came to rest back on its wheels, though it was clear it had rolled over several times.

"Despite the crash, the two men inside, who are aged 25 years, escaped serious injury.

"Given the level of damage to the vehicle and where it came to rest, both men have been extremely lucky not to have suffered far more serious injuries."

Meanwhile a pedestrian and a motorcyclist were taken to hospital after a collision in Chadsmoor. Cannock Chase.

The incident happened near the The Nest pub at the junction between John Street and Cannock Road around 6.30pm on Monday.

Staffordshire Police officers closed off the road immediately while the two casualties were treated.

The force confirmed both were taken to hospital but could not elaborate on the extent of their injuries.

A collision investigation unit attended the scene to look into how the crash came about.

Police issued an appeal for any witnesses who saw anything to call the force on 101.
