The common carp, which weighed at least 10kg, was found burning on Wednesday night.

The fish was spotted on a cycle path along Darlaston Lane, part of the Lunt, Bilston, at around 5.22pm, with a member of the public calling 999 to report the fishy goings on.

The incident caused a storm on social media, as Wolverhampton Fire shared a photo of the fish.

@Wton_fire tweeted: "Crews responded to common carp on fire on open land it was at least 10kg."

One Twitter user, Chris Presslie responded: "Mindless fire by kids unfortunately they were hanging about when I called 999.

"I called 999 on the sculpture path for this. I think if I had my steel toe caps I would off tried to stamp it out.

"Fire was contained but the wind wasn't helping so had to call it through."

West Midlands Fire service confirmed that sent a brigade response vehicle to the scene, with three fire fighters inside. They put out the fire with water and left the scene shortly afterwards.
