Blaze spreads to six vehicles after thieves turn arsonists

Thieves set alight a vehicle they had tried to steal before the fire destroyed another six vehicles and a caravan.

Police were called to a yard next to the Boons Industrial Estate in Derrington at about 5.20am yesterday.

The thieves broke into a secure compound at Move That Car Vehicle Delivery Ltd and tried to steal a vehicle. but it would not start and caught fire. That blaze spread to the six other vehicles and the caravan.

A further six televisions were stolen from a nearby garage.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said a crew from Stafford and another from Penkridge were called to the industrial estate at 5.11am.

They used four breathing apparatuses and two hose reel jets and left the scene at 6.26am.

Anyone with any information on what happened at the industrial estate is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 84 of December 22.
