Cigarette was to blame for fire which killed Kingswinford pensioner

A cigarette started the fire in which an elderly woman died, it has been revealed.

Edith Williams was pronounced dead at the scene after the fire in her living room on Catesby Drive, in Kingswinford, on November 14.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The cause of the fire was a cigarette. The circumstances surrounding her death are still being investigated."

Fire, police and ambulance were all called to the blaze at just before 11.30pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service staff entered through a window to reach the woman.

Neighbour Valerie Ganley, 76, described Mrs Williams as a 'a very nice woman'.
