Stunned motorists captured the scene as the lorry, carrying a van on the back, caught fire.

The blaze started with the lorry coming to a halt between junction eight for the M5 and junction nine at Wednesbury northbound.

Two crews, one from West Bromwich and the other from Perry Barr fire station, attended the scene at around 12.25pm.

Two firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus to allow them to get close enough to tackle the flames.

Footage and images from the scene show flames bursting from the front of the lorry engulfing the cab.

The fire was quickly contained before crews worked to ensure the vehicle was safe.

It is believed no-one was injured.

Traffic queues went back towards junction six for the Aston Expressway at Spaghetti Junction.

There were also delays for motorists coming from the M5 with queues stretching back to junction two at Oldbury.

One lane was opened shortly after the fire but motorists were warned of delays lasting into this afternoon.
