West Bromwich lorry crash: Pensioner killed in tragedy named as Alan Maxfield

A pensioner who died when he was hit by a lorry in West Bromwich was named today as Alan Maxfield.

Mr Maxfield, 70, was struck by the vehicle on Jowetts Lane at around 8.40am yesterday, and died at the scene despite treatment by paramedics.

Sgt Paul Hughes said : "I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who has not yet spoken to us, to come forward.

"Our thoughts remain with Mr Maxfield's family and they are being supported by specialist officers. The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this sad time."

The driver was spoken to by officers at the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: "On arrival, ambulance staff found a man who had suffered very significant injuries.

"Sadly, it was almost immediately obvious that there was nothing that could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
