Wolverhampton road blocked at Chapel Ash for more than six hours due to 'major accident'

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a late night crash which blocked a Wolverhampton road for more than six hours.

The crash happened at around 1.50am leaving a Renault Clio with significant damage.

It happened at the junction of Merridale Road and Lord Street near the A41 at Chapel Ash.

Wolverhampton's response police team tweeted details of the accident and confirmed the scene would be blocked 'for some hours'.

The only occupant of the car – the driver - was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 42-year-old man from Wolverhampton suffered head and leg injuries and was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital by paramedics.

It is believed the road was fully cleared shortly before 8am.

A police investigation is under way into the crash.

Meanwhile four people were injured in a crash between two cars in Moxley last night.

A woman had to be cut out of one of the vehicles and there were three walking wounded following the crash in Bull Lane.

The accident happened at 8.05pm

Cutting equipment was used to remove the roof of one of the cars. All casualties were taken to hospital.
