West Bromwich crash: Two women cut free from car after late night smash

Two women were taken to hospital after the car they were travelling in hit another in a late night smash in West Bromwich.

Police claim a silver Mercedes was left the scene after the crash in the early hours.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision and drink driving.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the junction of Kendrick Way and Green Street at around 1.30am.

Two women in a black Vauxhall Mokka were treated at the scene by paramedics.

The vehicle suffered damage and its roof was cut off firefighters to help paramedics treat the women.

One woman, aged in her 40s, suffered neck, shoulder and leg injuries.

A second woman, aged in her 60s, had neck and pelvic pain.

Both were taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision and for providing a positive breath test in West Bromwich.

"Two women in a Vauxhall Mokka suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital. The male driver of the car was uninjured.

"Officers traced a silver Mercedes to garages in Glover Street and arrested a 26-year-old local man nearby.

"Glover Street was sealed off while forensic examinations are carried out and the car recovered."

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 101.

Firefighters from Smethwick, West Bromwich and Handsworth stations attended.
