Elderly woman taken to hospital after lorry and car crash

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after a car and lorry crashed near Bridgnorth today.

The crash happened on the A454 Bridgnorth Road at Shipley, at about 1.20pm.

It closed the road between Clive Road and Brantley Lane.

Murray McGregor, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to Gardenlands, garden and leisure centre on Bridgnorth Road at 1.22pm.

"We sent a land ambulance and the Midlands air ambulance from Cosford.

"The initial call stated it was a lorry and a car that had been in collision.

"There was an update from the crew to say there was an elderly female with chest and neck injuries and were asking for the fire service to come and take the roof off."

The woman has been taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton by land ambulance.

Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We have taken a woman in her 70s to New Cross Hospital by land ambulance.

"The air ambulance landed but did not transport the patient.

"The woman had suffered a suspected fractured rib and neck injury and she remained conscious throughout."
