Up to 20 firefighters have been at the derelict site, in Crocketts Lane, overnight.

Fire engines with hydraulic platforms have been used to allow crews to tackle the flames from above.

The road was closed as West Midlands Fire Service tackled the blaze at around 10pm.

It is the fourth time crews have tackled fires at the site since last August.

The Smethwick campus closed when college courses were centralised by the opening of a £77m campus in West Bromwich in 2012.

The college site together with neighbouring Crocketts Lane Primary School buildings had been earmarked for a major new housing scheme.
