Man suffers spinal injuries in Stafford Road smash

A man suffered spinal injuries after his car smashed into road barriers on a main road through Wolverhampton.

The injured man had to be cut free from his car after the crash on Stafford Road, which happened at around 9pm last night.

The road was closed while he was rescued by fire crews from Fallings Park, who had to remove the roof from the car.

Police confirmed that he was taken to New Cross Hospital with spinal injuries, but said that they were not life threatening.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "We had a call to Stafford Road after a car was in collision with street furniture.

"A man was trapped and the roof of his car was removed to release him. Two crews from Fallings Park attended and used specialist cutting equipment to release him."
