Firefighters from Willenhall and Bilston Fire Station were called to the Big Day Chinese Restaurant in Wolverhampton Street at around 11am. Crews spent around two hours at the scene.

Watch commander Chris Hill of Willenhall Fire Station said started as workmen were working on the roof of the premises.

"The building was locked up because it wasn't open for business but workers at the back of the property were doing work on the roof which had started the fire," he said.

"It took about half an hour for us to gain access and fully extinguish the fire - we were there for about two hours in total.

"The fire damage wasn't that significant but its probably going to damage business as they'll have to close for the night.

"The owner was on the scene and was aware of the incident."
