Mavis Storey was just yards from her home when she crossed the junction of Bloxwich Road and Leamore Lane shortly before midday on Saturday, where she was hit by a silver VW Golf.

The 88-year-old was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with critical injuries but pronounced dead later that day.

She was described by her family as 'a loving mother and sister who will be dearly missed'.

The 25-year-old man driving the car stopped at the scene and gave a voluntary interview to police officers.

West Midlands Police's Collision Investigation Unit is urging witnesses to get in touch.

Pc Julie Lynam said: "It's a very busy intersection; we've spoken to some witnesses already but I have no doubt more drivers will have seen what happened and continued on their way perhaps not realising the severity of the collision.

"I would ask anyone who saw the collision ? or the silver Volkswagen driving along Leamore Lane ? and who's not yet spoken to us to get in touch on the 101 number quoting the log number 1045 13/08."
