Officers were called to Hagley Road at 12.42pm on Saturday after a box containing the suspect device was found at an address in Danford Close.

Police attended the property and put a 100m cordon in place as a precaution until the contents of the box were fully assessed. Specialist EOD officers were also on the scene.

Residents in neighbouring properties were asked to leave their homes as a precaution, with many being put up in a nearby school.

Chief Inspector Paul Ditta, from West Midlands Police, said: "At this stage it is unclear what has been discovered at the address.

"EOD specialists will be attending to determine exactly what has been found and ensure it is made safe.

"We are working with Dudley Council to find temporary accommodation for those residents in the affected area and we will also be arranging transport for them if required.

"We would ask people to avoid the area at this time."

The cordon was in place throughout the day on Saturday and into Sunday morning with it eventually being lifted at 1.30am.

A man was arrested in connection.
