Two dead following spate of crashes across the West Midlands

Two people have died and more injured after a spate of crashes across the West Midlands.

A 22-year-old man has died in Wolverhampton while an elderly female also lost her life following a crash in Kidderminster.

Police were called in the early hours of yesterday morning after a Seat Leon had overturned in Barnhurst Lane in Pendeford. A 22-year-old man was rushed to New Cross Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Police were called to reports a silver Seat Leon had overturned after leaving the road and colliding with a fence in Barnhurst Lane, Pendeford, at just after 4.15am yesterday.

"A 22 year-old man was taken to hospital where he sadly later died from his injuries.

"We are in the early stages of our investigation and would appeal for anyone with information to call the Collision Investigation Unit on 101."

This came just a day after a woman in her 80s died following a crash on Birmingham Road in Kidderminster between a Mazda MX5 and a Renault Clio.

Inspector Lloyd Cresswell from West Mercia Police said: "The collision was between a Mazda MX5 and a Renault Clio. There was a single fatality, a woman in her 80's.The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC3690 Mounter on 101 using the incident reference number 503S/11. PC Mounter is based at Bromsgrove police station."

Elsewhere in the Black Country there were two more crashes in Wolverhampton and a smash in Dudley.

One of the crashes in Wolverhampton involved three cars, including a taxi, and happened on Oxford Street in Bilston. There were no serious injuries and no one was trapped as a result of the crash that happened at 12.54am on Saturday night.

One crew from Bilston fire station and one from Wednesbury fire station attended, meaning there were 10 firefighters there in total.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "This was an RTC involving three motor vehicles. No persons were trapped but the driver and two passengers were checked over at the scene.

"Crews made the three vehicles safe."

The firefighters left the scene just before 1.10am.

The second Wolverhampton crash was on Dovedale Road in Ettingshall Park and also involved a taxi. Seven people were left injured and were taken to hospital, although none of the injuries were serious.

The crash, which involved a white van and a red Peugeot taxi, took place at 1.19am on Sunday Morning.

According to West Midlands Fire Service the driver had fled from the white van.

One fire engine attended from Bilston fire station while a brigade response vehicle attended from Wolverhampton fire station. Eight firefighters attended in total.

A spokesman for WMFS said: "This was an RTC between a taxi and a white private van. There were seven casualties in total and they were all walking wounded.

"The van driver fled the scene. The fire crews made the taxi safe but left the van for forensics for the police.

Finally on Northway in Sedgely in Dudley, a blue Renault van smashed into a parked car leaving it written off. Again, WMFS said the driver had fled before crews arrived on the scene.

One crew from Dudley fire station and one crew from Bilston fire station attended the scene at around half six yesterday morning. A total of 10 firefighters attended.
