Around 20 firefighters were sent to the blaze after the fire service was called shortly before 4.30pm.

Engines from West Bromwich, Tipton and Wednesbury were sent to the factory in the Black Lake area and had the fire under control by 5.30pm.

David Aston took a photo of black smoke pouring into the sky from a vantage point near the Arnold Clark garage on Black Country New Road.

Matthew Smith, a fire service spokesman, said: "We initally received a 999 call at 4.21pm about a fire in a factory in Bilhay Lane.

"Since then we have received eight calls about it but we are still awaiting further details.

"We have sent four engines to the scene currently, two from West Bromwich, one from Tipton and one from Wednesbury."
