Man dies after being hit by train between Rugeley and Stafford

A man who was struck by a train near Stafford has died, police have now confirmed.

The incident happened at 11.39am on Sunday at Shugborough on the line between Rugeley Trent Valley and Stafford.

Police and ambulance crews who attended the scene were initially unable to clarify the condition of the man, but now British Transport Police have confirmed that the 46-year-old man from Stafford was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: "We were called to the line in Shugborough, Stafford at 11.39am on Sunday, 24 April to reports of a person being struck by a train.

"Colleagues from Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended and a 46-year-old man from Stafford was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and his family have been informed.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."
