Man rescued from canal after car plunges into water
A man has been resuscitated after a passer-by rescued him from a car which crashed upside down into a Black Country canal.
Firefighters were called to Walsall Canal near Aldi in Moxley shortly after 8.30pm after the car reportedly travelled 10 metres down an embankment.
The passer-by had been in a car behind, and ran down the embankment to help.
Firefighters revived the victim, who was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
High Street was closed at its junction with Black Country New Road for the police to investigate.
Group Commander Nigel Sowden, said: "Someone passing by has carried out a rescue of a man from the car.
"Firefighters have then provided CPR to the casualty and used a defibrillator.
"They have then been joined by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service who have given further medical care.
"The casualty has then showed signs of life. He has then been taken to Queen Elizabeth hospital by ambulance.
"This is quite a serious incident but we have done what we can now in trying to save a life."
Fire crews from Bilston and Perry Barr were joined by a technical rescue team from Wednesbury.
