Driver dies after car plunges into Moxley canal

A driver who was pulled from a car after it crashed into a canal in Walsall has died, police revealed this afternoon.

The victim, named locally as Dean Strong, 31, was in the vehicle which ended up upside down in the water off Darlaston Road bridge near Aldi in Moxley.

A passing motorist is believed to have pulled the victim from the vehicle, before emergency services carried out first aid.

Mr Strong was from Bradley, in Bilston.

The road was closed after the accident, which happened at around 8.30pm yesterday.

Friends paid tribute on Facebook to Mr Strong.

Deb Whiles said: "God Bless Dean top bloke still can't believe it xx."

Joanne Henry said: "R.I.P Dean thoughts with his family."

A barrier inside the police cordon was damaged

West Midlands Police spokesman Brigg Ford said: "The 31-year-old local man was taken to hospital where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he later died.

"Collision investigators are now working to establish how the car left the road; anyone with information is asked to call the Collision Investigation Unit on the 101 number."
