It happened shortly before 7am on Dudley Road near the junction with Shenstone Island and left the biker, in his 30s, with serious shoulder, leg and wrist injuries.

He was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Police officers are investigating what happened and believe a white car, which did not stop at the scene, may have been involved in the collision.

Around a 500ft section of Dudley Road was closed in both directions in the crash close to Mucklow Hill.

Railings were damaged at a pedestrian crossing near Shenstone House offices which are a base for Halesowen College.

Onlooker Mick Adams, aged 51, who was driving to work on Mucklow Hill, came across the accident, and said: "There was a lot of traffic stuck around the island so I thought it must have been an accident. It is a busy stretch of road down her and there a few bumps.

"I hope the motorbike rider is ok."

The road was reopened by police shortly after 9am.
