The 126 bus was on the A456 Hagley Road in Birmingham heading towards Wolverhampton when the 80ft tree fell into the road and smashed through its roof.

West Midlands Ambulance Service say no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident, which left the driver in shock and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to the bus.

Police tweeted this image of the scene, and a warning of road closures:

National Express spokesman Jack Kelly said: "This was a large tree that fell into the road directly onto the top of the 126 bus.

"There were a number of passengers on board. Thankfully it looks as though no one has been injured.

"The driver was shaken up and is getting support for shock. The damage to the vehicle is quite substantial. At this point we don't know what caused the tree to come down."

Traffic diversions were in place around Portland Road and St Augustine's Road.
