Riders injured in Staffordshire crashes

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital after colliding with a lorry.

The accident happened in West Way, Rising Brook, Stafford, during rush-hour.

The rider, a man in his 30s, was taken to University Hospital of North Staffordshire where he was treated for a serious leg injury.

Traffic was delayed around Stafford after the collision on the A449 just after 5.30pm on Tuesday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Suzie Fothergill said: "Crews arrived at the scene to find a cyclist lying on the floor near to a pedestrian crossing following reports that he had been in collision with a lorry.

"The cyclist was treated for a serious lower leg fracture."

In a separate accident, a motorcyclist was hurt after his bike collided with a car in Cannock.

The crash happened at the junction of Stoney Lea Road and the Old Hednesford Road just after 12pm.

The motorcyclist suffered back pain and facial injuries and was taken to New Cross Hospital for checks.
