An engineer from Walsall has died after falling 22ft from an electricity pylon in Cumbria.

Bosses at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) today said an investigaion had been launched into the death.

It happened in Great Orton near Carlisle on Saturday afternoon

Inspectors will now consider whether any action should be taken against the company the man worked for, German industrial services provider Bilfinger Industrial Services.

A statement released by Bilfinger Industrial Services stated: “It is our current understanding that an individual suffered illness and sadly died while working on a pylon.

“We are giving our full co-operation to the authorities. Our thoughts are with the family at this time.”

HSE regional spokesman David Harris confirmed the man was from Walsall, adding: "The HSE has launched an investigation."
