Three males fled from the vehicle following the smash at St Chad and All Saints Church, Dudley Road, Sedgley, at around 10pm last night.

Two females remained in the car and were treated for minor injuries by paramedics.

Both were taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital for further checks and treatment.

The males ran off towards Sedgley.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said she had heard the smash.

"I looked out the window and saw what was happening," she said.

"I sent my husband to check the people in the car were okay while I called 999.

"From the look of it I thought someone would have been badly hurt.

"There were three males in the car and they ran off. The two females were still in the car.

"They were both quite young and very scared. One said her knees hurt.

"The emergency services arrived and they were treated.

"It was a bad smash and not a nice thing to see. It was very scary."

She said other residents had also come out to help.

West Midlands Police spokesman Deb Edmonds said: "The occupants fled the vehicle. The two girls still in the car were taken to hospital for minor injuries."

The section of wall has been reduced to rubble by the impact of the smash.

Meanwhile a car crashed into a lamppost and trees in a separate crash in Rowley Regis.

The crash took place on Hawes Lane at around 10pm on Saturday and involved a Land Rover Discovery.

Council workers had to be called out to turn off the live electricity supply to the lamppost after the smash.

Ian Nash, crew commander of Oldbury Fire Station, whose crew was called to the scene, said the driver walked away from the smash and was not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

The driver, a man believed to be in his 30s, was seen by paramedics who were called to the scene to help.
