Arrest as woman rescued from arson attack house in Walsall

Petrol was poured through a front door and set alight in a suspected arson attack that led to a woman being rescued in Walsall today.

Emergency services found the front door of the property on Bloxwich Road alight at around 3.10am.

A woman was rescued from the property and treated for smoke inhalation, and the blaze was put out before it could take hold inside.

Less than an hour later, police arrested a man, 43, in Brownhills, who is believed to known to the victim.

He was being held today on suspicion of arson arson with intent to endanger life and drink driving.

Inspector Steven Lloyd, from Walsall Police, said: "€œIt'€™s believed petrol was poured over the front door and through the letterbox. Fire crews and police got to the scene quickly and were able to douse the flames before they had chance to spread.

"Thankfully the lady inside wasn'€™t hurt, but this was a deliberate attempt to set fire to the house and could have caused extensive damage and injury."
