Woman, 93, rescued from flat fire in Bloxwich

A 93-year-old woman was rescued from her flat by firefighters after a blaze broke out in her airing cupboard.

Crews were called to a six storey block of flats in Bamford Road, Bloxwich, at around 6.45pm.

They carried the woman, who was still conscious, out of a first floor flat and put out the blaze, which involved towels and linen.

The woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital as a precaution.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Firefighters did not have to evacuate other residents in the block of flats.
