The Nissan Micra left the roadway on the A456 Hagley Causeway near Halesowen at a roundabout.

It is believed the car slid off the wet road across a grass verge before falling down a 6ft bank and becoming wedged in a hedge.

Onlookers said the male driver had been able to get out of the car as police arrived shortly after 3pm.

A man, who did not wish to be named, saw the aftermath of the accident and said: "The driver seemed a bit shaken but ok.

"The roads are very slippy around here as there had been some rain showers again today."

Police officers blocked off one lane of the dual carriageway on the Halesowen-bound side.

Traffic queues formed as recovery vehicles came to winch the Nissan to safety.

The accident was cleared within an hour.
