Woman badly burned in Aldridge house fire

A woman suffered serious burns in a bedroom fire at her home in Aldridge.

Firefighters were called to a house in Myatt Avenue. Watch commander Colin Ward said it was believed the woman had been smoking in bed at the time.

“The lady, in her 50s, was bedridden and used a wheelchair,” he said.

“She was confined to her bed on the ground floor and we believe she may have been smoking.”

Fire crews were called at 3pm yesterday.
