Smoke pours into skies in Walsall rubbish fire

A large-scale fire was reported on waste land in Bloxwich today.

Firefighters were called to the site in Broad Lane after reports that black smoke had been seen billowing into the sky shortly before 8.30am.

On arrival they found a 'vast' amount of rubbish had been set alight underneath power cables. Western Power Distribution were also called to the scene as firefighters feared the fire may affect electricity supplies in the area.

Residents living near the southbound junction of 10a of the M6 for Walsall reported seeing smoke in the area.

The blaze was tackled by firefighters from Bloxwich as well as their counterparts in Staffordshire.

Environmental health officers were also called to the scene.
