This was the tragic scene after a car and lorry crashed killing two people. The fatal accident happened on the A41 at Tong, near Shifnal.
Two people travelling in the car were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at around 2.20pm yesterday.
Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “I can confirm two people died in a collision between a car and a lorry on the A41 between Albrighton and Tong at around 2.20pm.
“The occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene.”
The road was closed by police following the tragedy, along with some of the surrounding roads, including junction 3 of the M54.
The coroner for Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, has been informed following yesterday’s accident.
Police are still trying to contact the family members of those involved in the accident.
Steve Parry, a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance service, said an ambulance, a paramedic officer, a paramedic in a rapid response car and the Medical Emergency Response Incident team were sent to the scene.
He added: “Crews responded to a collision between a car and lorry.
“Sadly, it quickly became apparent to crews that despite their efforts nothing could be done to save two patients travelling in the car. They were confirmed dead at the scene.
“The driver of the lorry was assessed at the scene and later released.”
