A mother and her three children escaped unharmed following a gas explosion in their home.
An engineer was replacing the woman’s boiler in her bathroom in Beakes Road in Bearwood when the explosion happened shortly after 6.30pm last night.
The explosion caused the roof of the bathroom to lift up and a back window to smash.
Fortunately, the gas engineer and family escaped unscathed.
The woman was in her early 20s. Her children were aged from four to eight.
Oldbury Fire Station watch commander Keith Clarke said: “The gas engineer was lucky to get out without any injury - he proved to be in the eye of the storm if it were.
“The family were also fine. The property suffered some damage with the bathroom roof lifted up and a window blown through.”
The gas supply to the property had to be cut while checks had to be made to ensure the house was safe.
The family were allowed back inside at about 9pm.
