Julia Bywater suffered a broken leg when thrown from her Harley Davidson as she made her way to the shop in Upper Gornal.

Mrs Bywater, aged 48, and her husband Simon, 51, are both motorbike enthusiasts and ride to work each day.

But she is likely to be out of action for months after having an operation to insert a pin above her ankle, which snapped in two places. She must also wait to see if she needs an operation on her arm.

The couple, who have been married for 26 years, have run the shop since 1992 and have become well known among locals in the village.

The crash happened at about 9.30am on Sunday in Netherby Road, Sedgley and Mr Bywater was told by a resident who had rushed to help her.

He said today: "They rang the shop - I was already here because I always open up on a Sunday.

"She has been on morphine and had a big operation so it's been a difficult couple of days." Police are taking no further action.
