The 63-year-old, who has not been named, was found dead at the property in Baylie Court, Green Street, Stourbridge, yesterday.

Fire, ambulance and police crews were called to the block of flats, off Stourbridge Ring Road, after receiving an emergency call at around 10am.

They arrived to discover a fire in the living room of the 10th-floor flat. During a search of the property, crews found the dead woman.

A joint fire and police investigation has been launched to discover the cause of the blaze. But police today said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The main entrance to the 15-storey block remained sealed off for more than three hours following the fire as investigations were carried out.

Fire service spokesman Jeremy Sharpe said the blaze had caused around 15 per cent damage to the property.

"The fire remained confined to the living room, which we believe is where it started," he said.

He said the woman had lived at the flat.
