They both happened in the early evening yesterday.

In the first the driver of a pizza delivery car had a lucky escape when the Renault Clio careered out of control in Wolverhampton.

The saloon demolished a postbox before spinning in Compton Road at its junction with Avenue Road, Compton at 5.30pm.

The Clio rolled onto its side and ended up wedged against a tree. Fire crews from Tettenhall and Merridale Street removed the windscreen from the badly damaged vehicle to release the driver who was travelling alone. He was not thought to be badly hurt.

The road was closed for around three quarters of an hour.

Meanwhile, a woman was taken to hospital after her car crashed into a lamp post in Halesowen. It happened at 6.30pm on Highfield Road.

Her injuries were not believed to be serious.
