Investigations were today continuing into the death of a 22-year-old man who was found in his tent at the V Festival.

Timothy Brockhurst, of Dutton Close, Stoke Heath, near Market Drayton, was unresponsive and not breathing when he was found by friends at Weston Park, near Shifnal, about 1am yesterday.

He was given emergency first aid by security staff while paramedics and the on-site doctor rushed to help, but the medical team was unable to revive him.

His family was too upset to talk today and was being supported by police family liaison officers.

Superintendent Pete Owen, of Staffordshire police, said: "Organisers, emergency services and all those involved in the festival are saddened by Timothy's death and our sympathies are with Timothy's family and friends at this time."

He said the cause of the death was not yet known and a post-mortem would take place early this week. The death is being treated as unexplained.

A festival spokesman said: "We are all very saddened by this tragic incident, and we want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of this young man."

Revellers spoke of their shock at waking to hear the news.

Paul Thornton, aged 22, from Burntwood, said: "It's an awful thing to happen, an absolute tragedy ."
