Head teacher of Barr Beacon School, Lynsey Draycott, condemned parents for parking irresponsibly on pavements, double yellow lines or at junctions.

It follows an incident involving a Year 8 student where dangerous parking led them to be knocked down outside the gates.

The letter reads: "Despite repeated requests asking parents not to park dangerously i.e. on pavements, double yellow lines or on a junction of local roads this has continued. Already, one of our Year 8 pupils has been hit by a car outside the school gates, on a road which has double yellow lines. A local resident who witnessed the parking has asked the school if it requires a fatality before parents park using common sense. Cars have been observed reversing back down Old Hall Lane.

"Parents who park on beacon Road, opposite the school, are expecting their child to cross a very busy, main road rather than walking the pedestrian traffic lights. On behalf of the life of every single child at Barr Beacon School, can parents PLEASE PARK SENSIBLY AND THOUGHTFULLY.

"We have asked both police and local parking enforcement officer to regularly visit the area during the mornings, at the end of the day and school functions.

"There are a small number of children currently on crutches and I can understand these parents need to drop their child off at the school gates.

"However, no headteacher wants to write to parents about a fatal accident involving one of their children."

The secondary school is in Old Hall Lane, Aldridge.
