Tyrell Harris, 18, is alleged to have fired two blasts from the back seat of a VW Golf as it pulled up next to another car in Smethwick.

Sat in the passenger seat of the Peugeot 107 that was targeted was Sufiyan Khan, who claimed he was subject to a campaign of intimidation after telling police he was robbed, culminating in the terrifying drive-by shooting, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

The attack on Green Street came less than a month after Mr Khan had been stabbed by Harris.

The accused admits striking him with a 'big knife' but claims he did so in self-defence as Mr Khan was threatening him with a Taser, the court heard.

Giving evidence, Harris said he had nothing to do with the shooting.

Both Mr Khan and a friend who was in the driver's seat of the Peugeot somehow avoided serious injury as glass rained down on them after the windows were shattered by the shotgun blasts.

Mr Khan claimed it was Harris who pulled the trigger on August 14 last year and pointed him out at an identity parade.

But the defendant denied any involvement in the drive-by attack.

Mr Spratt said: "The person at the end of the gun with the windows wound down was Tyrell Harris – you were identified on September 23. You were carrying on the intimidation, weren't you?" Harris said: "No sir."

A large knife was produced by the prosecution and shown to Harris, who accepted he had used it to stab Khan.

But Harris who was with his friend Remel Bennett, 18, at the time, insisted he used the weapon to defend himself.

Harris, of Abbeyfield Road, Erdington, and Bennett, of Laurel Drive, Smethwick, pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent.

Harris also denies attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The trial continues.
