Mircea Cozmiuc murder: Sivan Amin to serve at least 40 years after killing ex-housemate

A killer who stabbed a former housemate to death in a 'savage and brutal' attack yards from his home has been jailed for life with a minimum of 40 years.

Sivan Amin, 37, knifed Mircea Gheorghe Cozmiuc more than 20 times in Carter Road, Wolverhampton, after becoming jealous of his relationship with another man.

The court heard he had killed in similar circumstances whilst living in Sweden in 2008 - and the murder of Mr Cozmiuc came just two years after he had been released for the previous slaying.

Judge Melbourne Inman, QC, described Amin as 'extraordinarily dangerous'.

He said: "I am satisfied that you are singularly an extraordinarily dangerous man.

"You are only 37 but you've already murdered two people - and murdered them for reasons and in circumstances that are likely to recur throughout your life."

Amin, who had given 23-year-old Mr Cozmiuc gifts, including a bracelet, said he loved him 'like a brother' but became increasingly angry after fellow Romanian Andrei Bourceanu moved into the house and began sharing a room with his old schoolfriend.

Amin called their relationship 'inappropriate'.

After several rows, Amin was finally kicked out of the Carter Road house last June following a dispute over the rent during which he threatened to 'put a bullet through' his housemate's body.

Amin posted homophobic messages from various phone accounts on to the public photo-sharing service Instagram featuring pictures of the victim with Mr Bourceanu accompanied by descriptions such as 'gays' and 'homo rats'.

On September 3, Amin drove to Carter Road and launched a frenzied attack in the street as Mr Cozmiuc set off to go to work at Amazon in Rugeley just before 7am.

He then drove home to Merridale Road West and, minutes later, used a friend's car to dump his blood-stained clothes.

But the attack had been witnessed by a neighbour who noted the registration number of Amin's Audi car and contacted the police.

The defendant was convicted of the manslaughter of a friend in Sweden nine years ago after shooting him in the head at point-blank range.

The pair had previously lived together and Amin had given him a ring but the victim had recently married and moved away.

Judge Inman QC added: "This slaying arose from your very violent reaction to your extreme jealousy or feelings of betrayal when Mr Cozmiuc appeared to have transferred his friendship and affection from you to Mr Bourceanu.

"This was a particularly savage and brutal attack in which you stabbed Mr Cozmiuc no less than 20 times."

The judge said there were no mitigating factors at all and Amin had 'shown not a shred of remorse during the entire trial'.
