WATCH: Cafe raiders go back for seconds after smashing way into building

Three raiders smashed their way into a cafe, returning twice in the night.

The men broke in to Well Lane Cafe in Wednesfield through a window in the women's toilets.

CCTV footage shows the raiders, all with their faces masked, rummaging through the area behind the till.

They first turn up on Saturday at 12.30am, before coming back an hour later.

The footage shows them pulling out drawers, turning bottles upside down bottles and looking through paperwork. It appears they were searching for something in particular.

Owner Julie Kent has published the CCTV footage on social media in the hope the three men are caught.

It has since been shared more than 30,000 times.

Ms Kent said: "They completely ransacked the place – it was a huge shock turning up on Saturday morning with everything on the floor. We had to clean up and the costs adds up. We are now doing work to improve security."

She added: "The police said they had never seen anything like it. They said it was unusual. Not much was taken. It is strange because I don't know anyone who holds any grudges against me or the business. I don't get it."

The cafe has been going for more than 50 years, although it was not the first time it has been targeted by intruders after they were broken into in 2013.

Ms Kent added: "It is very hurtful when something like this happens. For all the staff that work here, it is very upsetting. Nobody's business is doing well at the moment. Everybody is having a tough time but things like this really don't help. It just makes life tougher. But the reaction from people has been fantastic.

"I opened up the day after just 15 minutes later than usual and did a full day's trade.

"We have got a really loyal customer base here. We see the same people every day. We have been here over 50 years and we are part of the community.

"We got broken into four years ago although the unfortunate man got covered in so much anti-burglary paint all they got away with was a bottle of Fairy Liquid.

"Customers and strangers have offered to help and we have been inundated with messages of good will.

"It has been really nice in that respect and heart-warming.

"I would just ask that anyone who knows who the three people are to call Crimestoppers and pass the information on."

West Midlands Police confirmed the break-in had been reported to them and issued an appeal for information.

The Wednesfield neighbourhood police team tweeted: "Burglary carried out by three persons at Well Lane Cafe early hours of Saturday – do you know who it was?

"Please let us know if you do."

Anyone with information should call 101.
