Kuljinder Gakhal, aged 30, is alleged to have been driving a Jaguar car in which his father, Daljit Gakhal, was a passenger.

The 52-year-old was killed in a crash between the car and a lorry at the junction of Birmingham New Road and Tipton Road at about 10.30pm on May 20 last year.

Gakhal, of Thames Road, Slough, denied causing death by dangerous driving and failing to give permission for a test on a blood sample which had been taken from him, at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday.

Gakhal was also treated in hospital for serious head injuries following the crash.

The lorry's driver was uninjured.

The junction was shut for several hours while emergency services cleared it following the crash. Gakhal was released on unconditional bail.

He will next appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on October 16 for the start of his trial.

This is expected to last up to five days.
