The growing problem cost the council almost £30,000 in six months.

Officers have revealed they received reports of fly-tipping on 570 occasions from April to September last year. This compared to 824 from April 2015 to March 2016, and 819 from April 2014 to March 2015.

Across the two-and-a-half period, the council spent almost £125,000 on clearing the rubbish.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services, said: "It costs us, and ultimately council tax payers, thousands of pounds each year to clear incidents of fly tipping across the borough. At a time when we are increasingly under financial pressure, this is incredibly frustrating as these costs could have been avoided if people were responsible and disposed of their waste properly.

"I would ask residents to be our eyes and ears and help us tackle this issue. Any incidents can be reported via Dudley Council Plus, the council's website or our mobile phone app."

"I would also remind people that the council offers a special collection service for bulky items and a commercial waste collection service for businesses."

The data on fly-tipping was provided by WasteDataFlow, which collects and produces data on waste statistics for local authorities around the country.

From April to September last year, the council spent £28,696 on fly-tipping.
