Nigel Ordinans, aged 63, was found inside his car, which was on its side, on a remote coastal road in the early hours of last Thursday.

Mr Ordinans, a retired Banks's brewery worker, is believed to have killed his wife Linda, 61, before driving 180 miles to the county.

Today police revealed Mrs Ordinans died of head injuries caused by a blunt object.

DI Tristan Kluibenschadl told her husband's inquest in Kent this morning that a suicide note had been found in his car.

A post mortem examination confirmed his cause of death as decapitation.

Assistant coroner Kate Thomas, sitting at the Archbishops' Palace in Maidstone, adjourned the inquest until January 23 for further reports.

West Midlands Police were alerted to the Mrs Ordinans' death after her husband called police in Kent.

Her body was found at their home in Mill Green, Bushbury, just after midnight on Thursday. Her inquest is expected to open in the coming days.

West Midlands Police, helped by Kent Police, led the investigation and last week said they believed Mr Ordinans had killed his wife before killing himself.

Anyone with information which could help the enquiry should call DI Hines on 101.
