A woman has been found dead at her home in Wolverhampton after apparently being killed by her husband, who then took his own life, police said today.

West Midlands Police were alerted to the woman's death after her husband called police in Kent.

They were named locally today as Nigel Ordinans, 63, and his wife Linda, 61.

A short time later, he was found dead after a crash involving one car in Dover, around 180 miles away.

The cause of death of the pair has not yet been established.

The woman's body was found at Mill Green, Bushbury, just after midnight yesterday.

Neighbour Shelley Jones said: "I live opposite. Police arrived around 1am.

"They knocked our door around 2am asking when we had last seen the people who live there.

"Don't want to speculate as we don't know what has happened."

Turlok Singh Suwali, who lives close by on the opposite side of the street, said: "They always waved when I went past the house. I often saw him walking his two rottweilers.

"They very much kept themselves private. I never saw visitors come and go from there.

"The lady's father lived with them up until he passed away a few years ago. The last I saw of him was when he had just come home a few days ago with the dogs in the car. He just waved and seemed perfectly fine.

"The police came round to ask questions to all the neighbours when she was found. They told me she was found dead in the kitchen and he had gone. They wanted to know if I had any information or any idea where he would be. Then the next day they called to tell me that he had been found in Dover. It's very sad. We're all very shocked here."

Doreen Dyson, who lives in nearby Taunton Avenue, said: "I went past and saw the police there investigating. We couldn't believe our eyes. You couldn't get down there at all.

"I've lived here for about 30 years and I've never heard of anything like this. It's just a quiet street. I knew something bad had happened."

Another neighbour, who wished not to be named, was shocked to hear the news. He said that he had seen more of Mr Ordinans since he recently retired from Banks' Brewery, and that he had been helping an elderly neighbour by driving him to hospital appointments.

He said: "I can't believe it. They just seemed nice and normal. They were supposed to be going away on holiday. I saw more of him recently after he retired from the brewery. She always used to wave from the window. People around here are really upset. It's not the sort of area you expect this to happen."

Det Insp Warren Hines said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation but it seems that the man has killed his wife before taking his own life.

"We are not looking for anyone else at present in connection with either death."

Officers are liaising with colleagues at Kent Police and post mortem examinations will take place in due course.

Kent officers said the man was found in a car on its side in the remote Upper Road area of Dover after midnight yesterday.

Kent Police spokesman Martin Very said: "Kent Police received a call concerned for the welfare of a man in the Upper Road area of Dover at 12.07am.

"Officers attended the location and a man was located deceased inside a vehicle.

"Officers are conducting enquiries into the circumstances."

"We can now confirm that the death is not being treated as suspicious."

Anyone with information which could assist the enquiry should call DI Hines on 101.
