Ms Skidmore, aged 37, was found dead at her home in Mill Croft, Bilston, on November 24. She was discovered by paramedics after neighbours alerted emergency services to a fire.

Sge was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem concluded that she died as a result of strangulation.

Today, it emerged that a step ladder apparently used to gain access to the house had been recovered by police, but did not belong at the property.

Today, Det Supt Mark Payne said: "This horrendous crime has had a devastating impact on those who knew Lisa, her family, friends and work colleagues and the people who lived near her.

"This is still very much a live investigation and we are determined to bring her killer to justice, but we need to piece together the events of that morning.

"We have recovered a set of metal step ladders which were used to gain access to the house in Mill Croft, but they did not come from the property.

"I am asking local residents to check their sheds and out buildings to see if they are missing a set of ladders and equally, if they saw anyone acting suspiciously in the days prior to this dreadful crime, to come forward.

"Our thoughts remain with Lisa's family as they continue to come to terms with their loss."

Ms Skidmore's family today paid tribute to her, describing her as a 'true Angel in the community'.

They said: "Dearest daughter, sister, aunty great aunty.

"The most caring, kind, compassionate, thoughtful, dedicated, professional nurse, who would go to the end of the world to meet any requirements of her patients, and her mum and family.

"Her death has left a void in the family that can never be filled again.

"Her presence will always be with us and her memory will never die.

"The tears in our eyes we can wipe away, the ache in our hearts will always stay.

"Now with the Angels in Heaven."

Her 80-year-old mother was found on the ground floor and taken to hospital and treated for severe injuries to her face and arms. She is now recovering well being cared for by relatives.
