Conner Williams-Smith knocked out the woman's front teeth and butted the new man in her life when he spotted the pair on a nightclub dance floor.

His year-long relationship with the woman had ended just four weeks earlier and he felt his nose was being rubbed in it, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

The 24-year-old had drunk 10 pints and lost it when he spotted Paignton Grice with Sam Bastable at the city centre Gorgeous Nightclub, School Street, Wolverhampton, on November 6, said Mr Phillip Beardwell, prosecuting.

Williams-Smith butted Mr Bastable and punched Miss Grice hard in the face, removing three of her teeth. She now faces the prospect of lengthy dental treatment.

Mr Simon Warlock, defending, said Williams-Smith, who had no previous convictions, had parted from Miss Grice just weeks earlier and the incident was still very raw for him.

"His friends took him out to drown his sorrows and there was a significant amount of immature behaviour from both sides.

"It would have been better if he had turned on his heel and left. He genuinely thought he was in love with the girl," said Mr Warlock.

Williams-Smith, of Malpass Walk, Wolverhampton admitted assaulting Miss Grice and Mr Bastable.

He received an eight month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, with 200 hours unpaid work and was told to pay £2,000 compensation to Miss Grice and £500 to Mr Bastable with £340 costs. He also received a restraining order.

Judge Marcus Tregilgas-Davey told him: "Your behaviour was boorish, childish and unlawful.

"The loss of three front teeth to a young woman is especially serious and it has had a significant impact on her."
