Lisa Skidmore murder: Man accused of raping and killing Wolverhampton nurse faces May trial

A man charged with the the rape and murder of Wolverhampton nurse Lisa Skidmore is due to stand trial in May.

Leroy Campbell, also accused of arson with intent to endanger life and the attempted murder of Ms Skidmore's elderly mother, appeared briefly at Birmingham Crown Court today.

The 55-year-old will be brought before a judge on January 9 for a plea and case management hearing. In the meantime a provisional trial date has been set for May 30.

Ms Skidmore, aged 37, was found dead at her home in Mill Croft, Bilston, on November 24. She was discovered by paramedics after neighbours alerted emergency services to a fire but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem concluded that she died as a result of strangulation.

Her 80-year-old mother was found on the ground floor and taken to hospital and treated for severe injuries to her face and arms.

Campbell, of Forest Road, Moseley, Birmingham, was remanded in custody.

Miss Skidmore had worked at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust for nearly 20 years and colleagues paid tribute to 'a valued member of the nursing team' where she worked as a senior staff nurse.

She received a bachelor of science with honours degree in professional nursing studies in 2007 and began working in the community, based in Bilston, in 2013.
